How could you not support this website? - BAJR Host - 23rd January 2009 http://www.badgertrust.org.uk Badger Trust Badger Trust is the UK's leading voice for badgers, actively promoting their conservation, welfare and the protection of their setts and habitats. We represent and assist many local badger groups comprising a total of at least 3,000 volunteers. :face-approve: ?When a sinister person means to be your enemy, they always start by trying to become your friend.? William Blake How could you not support this website? - troll - 24th January 2009 Agree entirely. As an ex animal rights campaigner, I`ve seen the persecution of this beautiful animal from the front row. In my view, the greatest threat to this species is limp and diluted legislation (Badger Act) and morons with spades, pits and dogs. Not to mention farmers and government "scientists" with convoluted views on TB and lucrative subsidies. There`s more in common between the plight of this badger and the plight of archaeology/ists than you think! ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) How could you not support this website? - Dirty Dave Lincoln - 24th January 2009 Anyone who cares about animal welfare should support this group. Has any one actually proved that badgers pass TB to cattle? or is just easier to scapegoat them for what is probably a man-made problem in the first place? Does anyone remembers a vets programme in the 90s? a vet was trying to administer aid to a badger victim of dogs, they had to tie its mouth shut, but the screaming of that poor animal reduced me to tears and anger that so called 'men' could inflict this on another creature How could you not support this website? - Blacktusk - 24th January 2009 I agree with supporting the Badger Trust, but does the agreement of people on here have to be accompanied by leftist political rantings. People are generally astute enough to make up their own minds without emotional diatribes. How could you not support this website? - BAJR Host - 24th January 2009 there are plenty of right of centre rants too... balance... a chip on both shoulders ?When a sinister person means to be your enemy, they always start by trying to become your friend.? William Blake How could you not support this website? - troll - 24th January 2009 Greetings to all. The Badger Act was placed upon the Statute books in the early 1990s in order to protect the species. Sadly (as with the majority of protected species) the animal needed protection to counter the behaviour of people in general. It would be difficult to absorb the facts and figures in this case without an emotion of some sort. I would argue that emotion played a significant role in the public support of this legislation and that the people who were successful in lobbying for its passage hailed from all spectrums of political persuasion. Emotion and politics aside (mutually exclusive?), the persecution of one species in a given ecosystem will have far-reaching implications for others. I do agree with Blacktusk on one point-agreement with the support of the Badger Trust need not be accompanied by diatribe. Support for this Trust should be considered on its merits alone. In assessing the merits of this Trust, it would be difficult to avoid issues that either prompt emotion or indeed, politics. Subscribers to BAJR enjoy the opportunity to enter into dialogue without censorship (except the AUP) with all manner of people with varying viewpoints and political bents. Thats the beauty of BAJR, frank and open dialogue underlined with respect for the views of others.:face-approve: ..knowledge without action is insanity and action without knowledge is vanity..(imam ghazali,ayyuhal-walad) How could you not support this website? - BAJR Host - 24th January 2009 Well said.. I once had the most amazing view of badgers in the wild.. Big, powerful and quite amazing.. AND so in need of protection. ?When a sinister person means to be your enemy, they always start by trying to become your friend.? Do not vilify, abuse, denigrate or call other members names." With the post coming after what I had put,I found the use of "emotional diatribes" to be very denigrating, insulting and a put down by said Postee-I do not find it acceptable under AUP. How could you not support this website? - kevin wooldridge - 25th January 2009 Quote:quote:Originally posted by Blacktusk Strange weekend. A poster to Britarch this weekend has accused other posters of 'socialist' leanings. Wonder if the two are in anyway connected.... I remember being berated by an elderly archaeologist in the 1980s who finally spat out, when he realised he wasn't winning the arguement, that he was 'tired of this Marxist diatribe'. Although I was proud then as I am now to be thought of as a Marxist, I had to ask him what particular part of the discussion offended him. He replied that he could always spot Marxists because we were those people that 'considered the Roman invasion from the point of view of the natives'. So maybe Blacktusk's point is that some of us are 'guilty' of leftist leanings through considering BAJR baiting from the point of view of the badger!! With peace and consolation hath dismist, And calm of mind all passion spent... How could you not support this website? - matthew.law - 25th January 2009 Why is wanting to protect badgers a "leftist" standpoint? In response to Kevin, the comments on Britarch seem utterly bizarre to me. I suppose I just fail to understand the poster's intended meaning. I was going to post a lengthy response, because there seem to be a lot of inconsitencies there, but it is an archaeology forum, and I don't really see how extending the run of that thread is constructive, and there really are some quite important things to talk about on-topic right now. |
