Photo jiggery-pokery - Bier Keller - 9th February 2009 This is a link to a Russian site on the subject of the siege of Leningrad. http://fima-psuchopadt.livejournal.com/2564781.html The site has modern photos of sites with period ones merged in (the thread on here about map regression got me thinking about this). Can anyone tell me what sort of software I would need to create this sort of effect? It may seem like a very easy question to answer for some but I have no idea. I don't have photoshop on my machine but would that do it - provided of course my new photos were from the same perspective as the old ones? Cheers, Taff PS enjoy the snow, Spring will br c*ap Just give me a cold Becks Photo jiggery-pokery - matthew.law - 9th February 2009 It's quite a neat idea. Thanks for sharing! Photoshop would certainly do it, using 'layers' and blending them together. There's a free, open source program called GIMP you could try - http://www.gimp.org. I don't have much experience with that, but it's supposed to be very good, and I found a tutorial for the process you would want to play with http://www.gimptalk.com/forum/topic/My-First-Tutorial-Blending-Images-In-Gimp-106-1.html If you have a go, do share the results! Matt Photo jiggery-pokery - Bier Keller - 10th February 2009 GIMP? You have to be kidding me. My Latex Batman suit is still at the dry cleaners in Leith...will it still work for me do you think? "I don't have much experience with that, but it's supposed to be very good" - well each to their own, nothing to be ashamed of. We are all adolescents here. I will have a play with it and report back on the results. I don't do building reports at the moment but I think that such an image could be an eye catching front cover. Cheers Beer is your friend Photo jiggery-pokery - matthew.law - 11th February 2009 GIMP. For real. Heaven knows why. No ball gag required though. I showed your link to somebody who knows a lot more about photography, and she said 'ahh, yes, Prince's Principle'. So, putting an old picture on top of a new picture has a pleasingly alliterative name. But apparently the original PP was quite a neat idea that involved putting an old slide into an adapted 35mm camera, taking to the site and looking through the viewfinder to try to locate a now absent bridge using an old tree as a landmark. Matt Photo jiggery-pokery - Digitaldigging - 13th February 2009 Hi - http://www.osalt.com/gimpshop This is a version of the gimp with a familiar interface if you're used to photoshop/ Photo jiggery-pokery - Bier Keller - 16th February 2009 Are these GIMP links safe? Anyone had any any bother after downloading? Also, are they easy to use or do I have to get a grown up to help? Beer is your friend |
