Ethics in a downturn - trowelhead - 4th March 2009 In this current time of economic difficulty and the associated risk of unemployment and company collapse would any of us be tempted to be unethical in order to secure employment or to win "that job" or to keep a client. This is something I asked myself the other night after four or five cans of Old Rosey and is there a sliding scale of ethacasy in this job. The very fact I was thinking about it troubled me greatly but when you think of the family, mortgage and dole Lord Vader starts to become very attractive.:face-thinks: Suffice to say my sabre has always been blue. Close enough for a country job! Ethics in a downturn - gonetopot - 4th March 2009 I think it depends on flexibility. Many of us younger (he says approaching 30) archaeologists have only ever worked in archaeology, therfore considering making do in a different job is a bitter pill to swallow. So i'm loathe to admit my ethics in order to secure a job may become flexible if i'm threatened (though i emphasise never flexible about the standard to whicj I do a job). Watching colleagues around me collect P45s can make you very edgy. Never mind archaeological ethics, that's terrible! Ethics in a downturn - gonetopot - 4th March 2009 At least Old Rosie has a little class. When you find yourself supping white lightning from a 3 litre plastic bottle, ethics may have been long forgotten. We must promote solidarity but how far before individuals begin to break? Ethics in a downturn - Sparky - 4th March 2009 They sell White Lightning in a 3 litre bottle now! The 2 litre never lasted as long as it should. Seriously, I don't think we should break and if people do, book 'em! We shouldn't give time for a few rotten apples to spoil the barrel, otherwise where will it end....? Ethics in a downturn - chiz - 4th March 2009 Quote:quote:Originally posted by Sparky at least there's no rotten apples in White Lightning, or any apples of any sort come to think of it... Ethics in a downturn - trowelhead - 4th March 2009 Knew I shouldnt have mentioned Old Rosey, ah the memories of the Stansted job. More a petrol can than a can can. What do you mean lost on price again! Ethics in a downturn - monty - 4th March 2009 Absolutely no ethics must be sacrificed !! though there are plenty that do.....recession or not ! Ethics in a downturn - Oxbeast - 4th March 2009 I saw the title of this thread and thought; "surely things in Essex can't be any worse than anywhere else". I thank you. In such circumstances I prefer to hang on to my self-respect. freeburmarangers.org |
