Though not advertised on BAJR (boo hiss) there are positions for:
- a conservation officer
- a trainee/assistant conservation officer
being advertised at East Herts District Council if anyone is considering a career leaning towards our built heritage/environment and planning.
To find the adverts go to jobsgopublic.com and search the eastern counties.

Sorry, they're not my adverts. But I thought some archaeological folk might be interested rather than just the architects.
Don't know why they advertise as they do, it strikes me as a very blunt approach to relatively specialist jobs.

I think you will all find that there are very few archaeologists who have the qualifications for jobs as conservation officers. This is the British Archaeological Jobs Resource not the British every job vaguely related to old things Resource.
Conservation officer jobs are usually advertised in different places and by a mail shot to IHBC members

Just trying to be helpful. Many of us work in units alongside those who undertake Historic Building Recording and even aid and abet them in survey or research. Perhaps you can confirm whether this has been circulated to IHBC members? In these straitened times I think many archaeologists would be gald to seize any opportunity open to them, but maybe thats just my reasoning.

Isn't current Government thinking (taken on by EH, the IfA, CBA, ALGAO, etc. etc.) to indiscriminately lump the "Historic Environment" all together? This is basically an "Anything Related To Old Things" approach, so in that respect, BAJR could sign up to this trendy agenda and carry any sort of job, as long as it has indeed got some kind of tenuous vaguely heritage-y angle. I agree it would be entirely logical to do so provided that it is realised that archaeologists are not neccessarily qualified to do such jobs and the minimum salary/grade thing is dropped.
