Old training excavations - Moby - 29th May 2005 Time for a spot of reminiscing... Anyone got any tales about old training excavations they used to go on? Were they all the drunken, drug-crazed, debauched days that I remember?! Also, where have all the massive training excavations gone? I used to go to Crickley Hill every summer to learn how to be an archaeologist; digging during the day and drinking all night - seems quite accurate! There would be over 100 volunteers there (numbers changing on a daily basis) from all over the world (one aussie had his trowel confiscated at the airport), all getting on rather well. Every wednesday several people would collect ?2.50 from everyone and then trundle into Cheltenham to buy booze to make some very good punch for one helluva party in the evening. Luckily Thursday was the day off [xx(] One week a hippy suggested we just bought 100 litres of lemonade and put a sheet of acid in the tub. He WAS being serious, but thankfully his suggestion was never taken up! My nickname was 'Mark the Shark', for reasons I won't go into... [:I] Old training excavations - deepdigger - 29th May 2005 Hmmmmmm, fill the bath with whipped cream and don't forget the goats!! deep Old training excavations - Sith - 6th June 2005 Yep! Sounds pretty similar to my experiences over several years at Wood Hall in North Yorkshire. We were never creative enough for punch but we did manage to consume far more than could possibly have been good for us. Strange, however, that most of us still in archaeology seem to hold fairly responsible jobs. Maybe it's all just a facade? Old training excavations - troll - 6th June 2005 urinated in my clothing after doing a bottle of sheep dip to myself-got up to all sorts of hideousness. Also commented on a gorgeous creature draped over the union bar until it turned round and was my mate Geoff. Got wed three times.....don`t drink na more....... Old training excavations - deepdigger - 7th June 2005 Ah, happy days Troll!! deep |
