BAJR Conference-call for steering group - Troll - 12th June 2005
A BAJR conference is on the cards. Title and details to follow. Of course it goes without saying that all are welcome and a huge turnout is hoped for. It would be superb to draw together under one roof, all who have something to say about the current state of the heritage profession and the nations heritage. A venue is currently being discussed over on the "now for something completely different" thread.I would like to see a well organised and professional event provide a platform for open dialogue and the preparation of a well-overdue publication. This can`t be done without a joint effort. Immediate needs/wish-list:
1. an advisor-who`s done this before?
2. volunteers-who`s willing to do what?
3. special skills- who`s the artists amongst you? Graphic designers?
4. Funding hunters- someone must know sumfink!
6. Who fancies presenting a paper?
Get in touch soon guys, we need to start talking about this pretty soon. All excited now.....

A bit like TAG but more informative to the actual people who do the digging?
Oh yeah and more fun to....
Although the sight of an eminent archaeology lecturer(name provided by request) pogo dancing did make it worthwhile going!!

Most excited too! I do think however that we should spend a year getting this just right. Takes time to write papers, folk need more notice for time off, search for adequate funding etc. This would give us all time to prepare the conference of all conferences would it not? I for one don`t feel comfortable about rushing into this unprepared, if we`re going to open serious dialogue, lets get it right. If we go for this year, we run the risk of looking like a badly run boot fair and will be sidelined as insignificant.Not up fer any o` that.....Just think about what we could organise in a year....Now I am excited...so much so I may treat meself to some hedonism....

Yes, I think you're right Troll mate, we should do our utmost to ensure that this thing runs smoothly and is seen to be proffessional!

Ash- Was`nt my idea mate! I`m afraid I`m one of those people who would quite happily invite media organisations in to embarass and vilify the parasitic elements of professional UK archaeology. I had a conversation with an inspired young lady on site last week and the conference was her suggestion. She tempered my overwhelming desire to go down the exposure route (ooer). I think she`s right and, clearly, far more grown up than me! Tiz a superb idea. Welcome aboard Ash, hope to e-mail you soon for a natter.
Venutius- All are welcome to attend such a conference. The more the merrier! I dare the IFA to dismiss the conference as "moans in the pub". In fact, with all the sincerity and warmth in the world, I hope the IFA will not only attend, but present a paper or two.
