the times they are a-changing - littleyellowidol - 7th July 2005 Greetings Something unnerving is happening in archaeology. I've worked on several sites recently where I've spent at least a couple of weeks being the only smoker. Also, I was working on a site recently which had one smoker, one vegetarian and one Guardian reader. What the devil is going on? Has anyone else noticed this development? On a related note, I don't drink any more these days. Are there any other teetotal diggers out there? Peace, lyi. the times they are a-changing - deepdigger - 7th July 2005 This has come to my attention before, for a while I was the only smoker on site, but my friend has started now and he's 23, never smoked before in his life and just decided to start! Still no-one likes a quitter! On a related note I don't drink any less!! deep the times they are a-changing - troll - 7th July 2005 Am completely teetotal. Allergic to alcohol...brings me out in handcuffs. Smoke like an Olympian but refuse to read newspapers. Can function admirably without the amber nectar in any scenario. Drunk people bore the living sh*t out of me. Drinkers who fabricate realities and relate endlessly "amusing" stories bore the sh*t out of me. Tell ya wot....try sex and fings without alcohol....equally, try relationships that are not founded and perpetuated through booze...wow on both counts. Those who choose to do stupid amounts of alcohol should recognise that they are heavily subsidising (thru tax) the behaviour of government et al, poisoning themselves and more likely to end up humping the ugly!!!!! the times they are a-changing - Beardstroker - 7th July 2005 Gave up a 20 year smoking habit in January after a good friend had a very close call with lung cancer aged 25 which acted as a bit of a wake up call. Don't drink much beer now as I'm sick of paying inflated prices for crap which gives me a bad stomach so I drink cheap vodka instead now which gives me a slightly bad head but at least I don't poo through a sieve everymorning like I used to We now have 2 smokers out of a field staff of 16 now at our unit. Never thought I'd see that happen. the times they are a-changing - deepdigger - 7th July 2005 Hey Troll mate, whats wrong with humping the ugly?? deep the times they are a-changing - troll - 8th July 2005 nowt-except it will probably cost you more than a few beers..... the times they are a-changing - deepdigger - 8th July 2005 Hmmmmm, well its too late to change the habits of a lifetime mate!! deep the times they are a-changing - mercenary - 9th July 2005 Quote:quote:Something unnerving is happening in archaeology. Political views have taken an alarming turn to the right lately too. I don't miss the once ubiqitous F*****g Hippy types, but at least their politics were generally palatable. Just heard about an archaeological site where recent bombings prompted discussion about pre-emptive internment a la Camp X-Ray. Among 15 archs only one spoke up against them!!! Deeply disturbing. the times they are a-changing - littleyellowidol - 9th July 2005
Just heard about an archaeological site where recent bombings prompted discussion about pre-emptive internment a la Camp X-Ray. Among 15 archs only one spoke up against them!!!
Deeply disturbing indeed! Please don't tell me we're all turning conventional. There's enough of that around already...
I don't miss the once ubiqitous F*****g Hippy types
Oi! I suspect that's me you're tarring with that brush! Not all hippies are drippy, y'know... Anyway, a few hippies are good for the overall balance... the times they are a-changing - destroyer - 10th July 2005 Smokers - depends on wether the site still has the old skool MSC or YOP diggers mooching around. All these kids with degrees and exercise and dietary regimes just dont seem to appreciate the challenge of rolling a fag with your gloves on, on a wet and windy december morning. Veggies - Grrr.... we just cant have a decent unit barbecue any more, they're bloody everywhere. Grauniad readers. Tis true, i appear to be the only man with a copy of the guardian on site. however it doesnt stop every other tightfisted bugger in the van leaning over my shoulder to read it during teabreak. |
