All new tv BBC2 MAP MAN (no not a geeky super hero) just one guy on a bike following old maps and tracing remains through the modern landscape. One bloke and his bike and a compass and a Map.. simple and interesting. TT take note.:face-thinks:

I hope this is not funded by tory central office, with a name like that it could well be Norman Tebbit on his bike!!

Map Man can't be that new cuz I've seen about 4 episodes. But you are right it was very good. I realized long ago that TV doesn't aim much at my tastes so when I like something it is probably not going to survive for long. Sigh...

It's not new, tho might be a new series. Saw quite a few episodes last year sometime and I agree, is nice simple telly. Also like that Picture of Britain program, some interesting artists depictions of Stonehenge last night. Oh dear, think my tastes in TV are getting sad.. I'll be hooked on Antiques Roadshow next!

The Bloke is Nick Crane. He's a proper eccentric stunt dude. He and his borther took mountain bikes up Kilimanjaro for the first time about fifteen years ago. Various lunatic missions, including really good solo walk from Gibraltar to Istanbul, the scenic route. And 2 degrees west is where he follows the 2 degree meirdian from northumberland to near Portsmouth. Quite a good read, and loads of stuff about cartography that actually manages to make it interesting. I think he's in Perthshire next week...
