Mmmm...just reading an 'ology report where they describe having to 'poodle' for hidden/buried archaeology with sondages. new one on me. any light on that.

For that matter any other weird words just used by the profession?

Poodle is a new one on me. Was the author suggesting that the excavator had investigated the feature in the manner of a small dog seeking out a tasty snack?

The only other option we could come up with was some sort of spell/grammar checker-induced typo:

"dog" instead of "dug" followed by the automated offer of a list of canine beasts to choose from.

Either way it's a bit strange. I would have preferred "furtle" or "scrottle" myself.
