Now ive only been "in the game" so to speak for a couple of months, but am i right in thinking that 1. everyone in archaeology knows each other and 2. everyones related. what a crazy scenario!!! if this is the case, then i think that its high time an arch dating service is set up. As ive said ive only been doing this a short while but from the nine people ive met so far four were married! thats nearly 50%!!!!! crazy figures imagine an arch.. blind date cilla would constantly be getting the hat out of the cupboard!

Probably - in an unnamed unit I worked for, there were 4 married couples (of about 16 staff), a senior member of staff was sleeping with the project manager's wife (for years) - who then became Director and celebrated by having an affair with the secretary, who then divorced her hubby and hitched the new director. The rest (umarried etc), simply slept with whoever was closest.

Greetings and welcome to the fold Bear! Some interesting stats there mate! May be something to do with two "facts";
1. Rent is affordable on our shameful wages when there`s two of us paying it,
2. Apparently, the best husband a lady can have is an archaeologist on the basis that the older she gets-the more interested in her he becomes! I assume that in an archy marriage-this goes both ways?
Has to be said that inter-archy relationships are started on solid footings-same interests-same rejection of modernity-same body odour at the end of the day! Does`nt always work out though, I made the mistake of marrying a post-med type last time....quickie divorce...prehistory triumphs again!!!!!

There is one thought that strikes me however. The sets of initials that normally accompany Lonely Hearts ads could take on a whole new aspect when given an archaeological bent;;

I spent some time trying to work out which unit this was, but then realised that it could have been almost every one I ever worked at. Who says consultants have a low moral standard.
By the way, what about all of those archaeological dynastys out there? It's not just the married couples that are related to each other you know. There's loads of peolple out there whose father/uncle/great grandfather is/was an archaeologist. Even I'm related to one (but I'm not telling you who), the b*gg*er's never wangled me a job though!

I think it might just be possible to link every archaeologist to each other in 5 steps if they've been around long enough. Myself, I have two other people of the same name running around doing archaeological work in the neighbourhood, once had a very pleasant 10 minute conversation with a curator before he clicked who I was [:o)]

The point when I knew it was getting silly was when I went to eastern Germany, thinking I wouldn't know anyone there, and within the first 2 days had met 3 people I'd worked with a couple of years earlier. You can't escape, they'll always find you!
