Pay scales - trowelfodder - 12th April 2006

Just a quick few question - with the bajr payscales do you mean that the company has to already be paying its staff at the different levels the recomended bajr minimum in order to advertise, or does it mean that only the jobs advertised have to meet the minmum?

Our company has not yet uped the wages for april and we've wondered how it affects those of us already employed as we have realised that we're paid well under the recomended amounts for our employment level

Pay scales - gumbo - 12th April 2006

I dont think there is any real law that can be enforced here, but I assume BAJR would only carry your companies adverts at the grade that they paid at, and that they could also be reprimanded by the IFA if they are an RAO, get reported, and are found to be paying below, for example, G3 pay to someone who has a contract at G3. Perhaps you should speak to your Union... (or perhaps alternatively you could speak to your portaloo).

However, I do think the IFA/BAJR does have quite a lot of peer influence. At our Unit, we realised that with the pay updates this year that we were now below the minimums. This was a problem when we wanted to advertise on BAJR as we wanted the experienced G3 people, not necessarily G2. We spoke to our boss who promptly put the wages up to the minimum requirements (not much but every little helps). Have you spoken to youre powers that be. They might be reasonable. Then again they might find that they have 'run out' of projects.

This has just been talked about...... All RAOs have been informed that the pay rates increased on April 1st, and as such people should now be paid that level. I noticed a big jump in adverts in the run up to April, so therefore the rates were the 'old' rates of pay. If there is an RAO out there who has not upped the rates of pay.... they should....as the rates set by IFA (which are linked with BAJR rates) are compulsory, not just suggestions. (or so I believe)

Another day another WSI?

Pay scales - Tile man - 14th April 2006

Ye4s they are compulsory, and as of next April they will have to take account of the wider 'benefits package'.

Pay scales - Real Job - 14th April 2006

Well, they are sort of compulsory, but very little will actually befall an Registered Archaeological Organisation that pays less than the IFA minimum.

The IFA does not consider paying less to be sufficiently serious to strip an RAO of its status. The worst an organisation can expect is that a note will be put next to its name in the list of RAOs. I guess the IFAs claims that "through its Registered Archaeological Organisation scheme [it] improves employment practices" and that it "works to improve pay and conditions" should be judged in the light of this knowledge.

(This was certainly the case two years ago and I presume it has not changed since.)

It changed this april

Pay scales - BAJR Host - 14th April 2006

Thats right (too much whiskey and brandy made me just want to get verification)

SO it you are in an RAO that is paying less.... remind them of their duty!

Another day another WSI?

Pay scales - Real Job - 14th April 2006

Progress! (thanks for the update Tile Man)- so what sanction will now be applied to RAOs that dont pay the minimum rates? Is there a disciplinary procedure?

I wonder - does anyone know - for how many years has the IFA had minimum pay scales (unenforced until now?

Pay scales - Tile man - 14th April 2006

There is an RAO disciplinary/ investigation / etc process I think quite simply if you won't pay you won't get (re)-registerd.

I think the RAO scheme has not been about as long as recomended minima, and the problem as ever is that you can't dump everything on the RAOs all at once whilst the majority of organisations aren't RAOs...
