World Cup fever - kevin wooldridge - 5th June 2006 Just reading an article in today's Times about employers who are wholly embracing the World Cup by allowing their employees to watch games that fall during "working hours" rather than risk mass absentism and wondered if any archaeological units had plans to do the same? Could be a potent recruiting perk over the next 5 weeks! World Cup fever - mercenary - 5th June 2006 We had a similar enlightened policy during the last European championships, and if Liverpool wins anything big we get a day off.[8D] World Cup fever - kevin wooldridge - 5th June 2006 I am working in Scandinavia at present and we have the advantage of being one hour ahead of the UK. Our 'big' idea is to work a 7am to 3pm day (instead of 8am to 4pm) on days when there is a big game starting at 3, so we only miss the first 10 minutes or so in getting from site to back home. Glad we are not a site that is doing 30 hours a week overtime. I like the idea of the day off if the bosses team wins. Does anyone work for a Brazilian archaeologist? World Cup fever - drpeterwardle - 5th June 2006 Apart from the Paraguay game which start at 2.00 pm the other group matches are at 5pm and 8 pm Peter World Cup fever - kevin wooldridge - 5th June 2006 Quote:quote:Originally posted by drpeterwardle That sounds as if you are only interested in the England games. How about Brazil, Australia, Sweden, Germany etc etc. PS Not to forget the Polish archies working in UK at present and the odd Italian or two... World Cup fever - drpeterwardle - 5th June 2006 Kevin, You forgot Iranian and Angloian archaeologists who will want to watch the match on the 21st at 3.00 pm. Togo and Switzerland on the 19th at 2.00 should be a riveting game as well. Peter World Cup fever - deepdigger - 6th June 2006 Football!? Not even interested! deep World Cup fever - the invisible man - 6th June 2006 Blimey! I'd heard of people like you but never really believed they existed! Now, look at the Stonehenge trilithons. It's obvious what they are isn't it.... We owe the dead nothing but the truth. World Cup fever - achingknees - 6th June 2006 Quote:quote:Originally posted by the invisible man Wasn't there once a TAG session on the archaeology of football (or similar)? Knees shows his age... World Cup fever - Tim - 6th June 2006 Indeed there was and it got into "Pseuds Corner" in Private Eye Little Tim "Freedom of thought is one thing, freedom of the purse is quite another".
