Funding crisis could cost Flag Fen its future - BAJR Host - 25th September 2009
Quote:A FUNDING crisis has put the future of one Peterborough's major heritage attractions in jeopardy.
Flag Fen Archaeology Park, one of Europe's most important Bronze Age sites, may not be able to reopen after its winter break because of cash flow problems.
It is believed the Bronze Age Centre and Archaeology Park, at The Droveway, off Northey Road, will need tens of thousands of pounds if it is to reopen next year, after it closes for its winter break in November.

"The site will be open to the public until November 1, as planned, but what happens after that is uncertain." I haven't heard anything further to this statement. This is the close for its winter break, but whether it can reopen in the deficit it currently finds itself in is clearly uncertain.

Our Christmas Market has been cancelled this year in light of recent announcements about the future of Flag Fen.
Our Christmas Fair has been cancelled this year to allow trustees and management to have time to focus on the talks that are taking place between Peterborough City Council and Fenland Archaeological Trust to develop a new partnership which will allow the site to thrive and develop. Flag Fen will shut as usual on November 1st for the winter and re-open next Spring. For more information please email: flagfenenquiries@btinternet.com

Funding crisis could cost Flag Fen its future - HRN84 - 23rd October 2009
I had to join the fed to reply just to this feed!! it's such a shame, and would be a complete injustice if they had to close Flag Fen. I was lucky enough to do some digging there over a couple of seasons, and the whole experience was amazing. I had a blast with all the excavation crew, who were patient and genuinely cared about the profession, and the continuation of the profession. The excavation team was always made up of people who WANTED to be doing the job, and who had time to teach you the basics in a practical and USEFUL manner- unlike my experience at uni, which i would've quit had it NOT been for my experiences at Flag Fen!! every time i'm back in Peterboro' i vist the site, and, it's true, it's not AS interactive as it once was- the museum exhibitions have been scaled back dramatically... not sure if it's a temporary or permanent thing, but the roundhouses will always remind me of the mis-spent summers there. Really would be a shame if they had to close..
