Nigerian 'job opportunity' - tom wilson - 13th September 2006 Hello All, this morning, I received an e-mail from a recruitment company wanting to hire an archaeologist for a pipeline in Nigeria. Ethics aside, such jobs do occasionally arise. However, the company has no web presence and it all looks decidedly dodgy. They want me to send a CV, which given the amount of information it contains that would be useful to identity fraudsters, I shall not be doing. I imagine that in future we will all have to be very careful what happens to our CVs. Given the recent use of BAJR by '419' scammers, I was wondering whether anyone else had received a similar mail. Tom Nigerian 'job opportunity' - Penfold - 13th September 2006 Tom Does indeed sound dodgy. Whilst I havent had a similar email I used to work in the oil industry prior to starting in archaeology and many colleagues there had horror stories that make those here look like teddy bears picnics in comparison. Without going on forever, the bottom line is that it is NOT A SAFE part of the world to work in, oil workers are often held hostage to make political statements or by criminal gangs seeking ransom, they are even well organised and brazen enough to take people from secure compounds. If I were you I would think very carefully before doing anything. Personally Id delete the email and forget about it. Penfold Nigerian 'job opportunity' - gumbo - 13th September 2006 LOL. Yep I got the message to. Am off for a briefing in Lagos tomorrow. Slightly dubious ethically but heh... (Seriously though, I deleted this as spam as soon as I got it. If you have a read it dont add up!) G Nigerian 'job opportunity' - BAJR Host - 13th September 2006 I feel left out, as I never got one Another day another WSI? Nigerian 'job opportunity' - tom wilson - 13th September 2006 Don't worry Penfold, I wasn't born yesterday. It was the bespoke nature of the mail that interested me. These people know my name, my e-mail address and my profession, and they took the time to try and reel me in personally, rather than the bulk spams we are all familiar with. yours sincerely, <s>Tom Wilson John Watson</s> Ron Thompson Nigerian 'job opportunity' - Penfold - 13th September 2006 Tom, Ron, John, Whatever your name is? Its a wise man you are sir. What will these [:o)]'s think of next? Vive La Revolution Penfold Nigerian 'job opportunity' - Bier Keller - 18th September 2006 I had this too last week. I have applied to so many companies that I forget the exact details. I thought that I might have been laying in the pool. However, I have no desire to be kidnapped and/or be held to ransom (who would pay? My family earn next next to nothing. and they would never sell the prize stud Whippet) and/or be butchered on camera. It went straight in the bin Just give me a cold Becks |
