NAA in the JIS of the IfA - BAJR - 4th February 2010 A little bird has let me know that Northern Archaeological Associates Ltd are advertising in the JIS - its funny that a company would pay to advertise there, when they are not even an RO .. but somehow are not advertising on BAJR. ... hmm... :face-huh: Still this post is a proper paid post and not a self employed position... Good to see permanent contract staff being treated well... with a sickness and injury absence policy, a group pension scheme, death in-service insurance and a Health Cash Plan - though as this advert is for a temporary contract these details should not bother them too much NAA in the JIS of the IfA - Oxbeast - 5th February 2010 Well, as the IfA have said before, the "don't control" the JIS. Presumably they have no trouble controlling the fees. I'd say this shows how weak their committment is to their own pay scales, not to mention working towards their own benchmarks. NAA in the JIS of the IfA - BAJR Host - 5th February 2010 I am sure the JIS is a good resource, though it should carry a health warning about not being responsible for content. :face-huh: NAA in the JIS of the IfA - BAJR Host - 5th February 2010 HAd contact from IfA who point out that the JIS does carry a disclaimer Quote: The IfA does not control advertisements that appear in the bulletin. However, if advertisements appear to offer rates of pay below the IfA recommended minima, or raise other issues of employment practice, the IfA will contact the advertising organisation and robustly address these issues. I take that to mean that the adverts they collect from various sources are beyond their control - they just let people know what is on offer whether or not they meet criteria that they would allow ROs to do. I did expect that paid adverts would be more closely examined ... perhaps I am wrong. NAA in the JIS of the IfA - Unitof1 - 5th February 2010 I once employed three ex a company advertising in JIS and was surprised to find myself introducing them to the three four five triangle but in their defence perhaps Pythagoras should have spent more on marketing and less on sandals and beans. NAA in the JIS of the IfA - BAJR Host - 5th February 2010 classic! of course you could say the same for many from BAJR too! NAA in the JIS of the IfA - monty - 17th February 2010 Who would want to work for NAA any way !! NAA in the JIS of the IfA - BAJR Host - 17th February 2010 http://www.bajrfed.co.uk/showthread.php?2765-NAA-in-the-JIS-of-the-IfA#post54580 Posted by: BAJR On: 8th February 2010 10:31 PM I am sure there are many that would. they do have good conditions for permanent staff. I would hope that the advert was clearer about what the person would be getting.. it would be worth checking. It is what I do. Just to make sure there is no confusion. } The IfA are worried I am undermining the JIS this is not ny intention at all. Rather making a point of order that responsibility for paid adverts relies upon ensuring all is fine, and helping clients find suitable wording if needed. (as I have a couple of times in the past week) The paying client is often very grateful to have this pointed out. I would continue to agree that BAJR and JIS are complimentary services and useful resources for all those seeking archaeological work. I am ever hopeful that the JIS takes a different line than "the JIS that we do not control the content of the adverts published in the bulletin" It is difficult to take a principled stand with a commercial service such as BAJR All the best, BAJR Federation Forum |
