TUC special day - work your hours - oldgirl - 18th February 2010
I thought this might be relevent to people, and it would have partially fitted into some threads, but I thought I'd start a new one.
This campaign http://www.worksmart.org.uk/workyourproperhoursday/ is proposed to deal with the number of hours that staff work unpaid every day/week/month/year and how this has an effect on people that they don't always understand.
It occurred to me that this might be one of the not so obvious things that Unions do.

Who me? :p Nah, too old and tired now..... I genuinely think people should consider the hours they're working. I also think that people ought to READ their contracts - if they are even given one! That's the biggest problem in archaeology I think - people aren't given their contracts or don't know what's in them. Often, organisations work on the principle of 'we've always done it like this - doesn't everyone? - so you'll do it this way too'. Very difficult to work out the implications of taking a job if you don't know about stuff like working hours, travel time etc. (e.g. just because your last job was ?x for a 37.5 hour week, this one might be ?x for a 42 hour week - if it doesn't state the working week in the advert, ASK!)
