Question for the weekend - BAJR Host - 5th October 2006 I have been asked to join a list of freelance archaeological contractors by a local authority. I understand that insurance is required to be included on the list. What kind of insurance do I need as a freelance archaeological contractor and roughly what might it cost? "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Question for the weekend - deepdigger - 8th October 2006 Do you really have time Mr Hosty? deep Question for the weekend - beamo - 9th October 2006 Public liability insurance - in case someone is injured as a result of your activities Professional liability insurance - in case the client is left severely out of pocket as a result of your professional judgement being found to be completely useless. Don't know about costs. Beamo Question for the weekend - the invisible man - 9th October 2006 As a contractor you will presumably require Employers Liability Insurance as well as Public Liabilty, but if you are only contracting, i.e. not providing professional advice, you may not require Prof Indemnity, I would hazard. But the documention from the LA will surely detail exactly what insurance is required and the level of cover - otherwise you could take out insurance for your pet's vets bill and righlty claim you have insurance! We owe the dead nothing but the truth. Question for the weekend - Alfie - 9th October 2006 Hello David, Well when I followed the Dark Side I needed professional Indemnity, Public Liability and employers liability. I found that a value of 5 million was sufficient for most jobs although some of the big boys will ask for a value of 10 million - 5 million cost me about £150 per month. Question for the weekend - BAJR Host - 9th October 2006 Lovely.... I have to confess its not fer me.. tis for another person... I was just making sure I got it right.. (just as well... seeing as I actually do have a contracting arm!) Many thanks to everyone "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu |
