Seems to be back to a low average year (if that makes sense) in Yorkshire/the North-East, judging by the number of jobs filtering through, but still a bit too early to tell. Housing market still seems to be down, except that small/single build developments never went away, still did the usual number of those last year

Yeah, I agree with Dinosaur. It seems that there aint much going on up north for most of this year....but several large and small construction projects probably kicking in in the next couple of years or so.

I think things are picking up in my little patch of the West Country. The three local units I have contact with have back-to-back sites through the summer. It's been a couple of years since I've seen that. :face-approve:

Projects in East Anglia appear to be slowly increasing again, including siome absolute gems of Iron Age/Roman date, but nobody's overcommitting on staff, there are loads of diggers out there constantly phoning round looking for jobs, but units are stretching their existing staff as much as possible to avoid a recruitment/redundancy cycle. Despite the pick up in work I think it might take the units a while to regain faith in the 'market' again.

View up north seems to be that a lot of developers holding land are looking at the economy recovering slowly and are commissioning a lot of advance work (Appraisals, DBAs, evaluations etc) with a view to developing land next year. The up-shot of that, if its the same everywhere, is that it might turn out to be a rather thin year for diggers this year (but bloomin brilliant for the consultancy end), but then a bumper year next year, so if you can't get a job now, don't throw your trowels away :face-approve:

Where pretty busey in north wales although a lot is post ex as the money came through for a big site we all worked on a few years back, so that was good, theres lots of small jobs and few bigish ones on the go at the moment but haven't heard anything after those so it might go down hill in the next few months

Sounds pretty similar to here then, they'll hang fire on building a lot of stuff until they think the economy's to the point where they can get their money back selling it, but they will be getting all the planning in place. All the utilities etc seem to be carrying on as usual though....next big worry is government infrastructure scheme cut-backs...
