Google Ads on Forum - ex-archaeologist - 17th August 2010 As people will have noticed the Google adverts running down the side of these pages pick up what people write in the text and usually missunderstand them slightly, sometimes these are quite mundane; posts on the Loose Ends thread about aerial photos are currently plastered with adverts for TV aerial installers; solicitors, ever alert to the possiblity of people suing each other, are currently advertising on the Fraud and Plagiarism page. On other pages the adverts may or may not be appropriate. On the Afganistan thread I started this morning postings have been accompaned by adverts for the bible (picking up on references to religion in the text, but probably the last place on earth you would want to sell bibles); relocation companies offering to help people move to Afganistan, "Planning a move to Afganistan" er no: Ukrainian women (see human rights record); Oxford Archaeology East and sadly perhaps the only the only relevant advert, an art loss in conflict zones campaign. There also seems to be a bit of a scientology campaign going on; the official church of scientology, founders message "I am getting into religion because that is where the money is", has chosen the Double Standards page to advertise its message. I inadvertantly clicked on Unit of 1's BAJR page instead of the latest post icon and found that it is currently advertising links to the 'truth about scientology' and 'Gods True Church', which is apparently based in Glasgow. I am not complaining about BAJR carrying adverts, I thought might just be worth opening an intermitent thread for people to record bizarre adverts which misconstrue the text written in the postings. Many of these adverts appear to be fleeting, only staying up for a short time. Google Ads on Forum - Unitof1 - 18th August 2010 I find that the main pages seem to know what products that I have been researching. Resently I have been trying to buy a computer. It is a bit sinister. I have though been looking at a lot of rugby and that does not seem to come up so I dont know if some things are coincidental. The christian stuff on my so called homewpage seems to have originated from posting on trolls sad religious group. I believe...that I am the only member at the mo. Google Ads on Forum - ex-archaeologist - 18th August 2010 Soon after I posted this yesterday a snazzy video appeared alongside the text encouraging people to join the church of scientology. I am wondering if I type LOOTED CHINESE ANTIQUITIES in block capitals whether lots of adverts for knocked off terracotta warriors will appear. How about FREEMASONS Google Ads on Forum - Unitof1 - 19th August 2010 are they mostly found round my way standing in the square Google Ads on Forum - JhawkArch - 19th August 2010 I feel a bit :0 cavorting with a website that advertises tours to the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah . That link has showed up on the main page since I began coming here! Not sure what caused that. Google Ads on Forum - Dinosaur - 19th August 2010 Anytime time the Church of Scientology comes up I seem to get an exhumation service and the Museum of London coming up with it, conspiracy theory anyone? Google Ads on Forum - BAJR - 19th August 2010 Thanks for being understaning about the google ads.. (needs must and all that) However I too was loving how it creates a bizzare connection as well.. My favourite was the debt management ones on any thread with diggers in it and a pet food advert that seemed to think that badgers were pets I hope they are not too intusive.. and as for unit of 1 and Scientology... I could not possible comment Google Ads on Forum - JhawkArch - 19th August 2010 Anything that keeps this site up! And keeps the podcasts coming :face-approve: Google Ads on Forum - ex-archaeologist - 19th August 2010 I see the Afganistan page is now advertising jobs for qualified Leopard Tank mechanics who are apparently urgently required to fulfil a NATO contract in Afganistan. Any takers? Google Ads on Forum - GnomeKing - 19th August 2010 .......... |
