New IFA and BAJR rates - drpeterwardle - 29th November 2006 On another thread the link http://www.archaeologists.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=45 to a consultation letter from the IFA to RAO appears to announce a pay increase for archaeologists was posted. Has it been confirmed that these proposals will be implmented? Peter Wardle New IFA and BAJR rates - BAJR Host - 30th November 2006 No news yet! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu New IFA and BAJR rates - drpeterwardle - 30th November 2006 In a sense this is my point. At present we appear to have the worst of all situations. A pay award of this amount cannot be implemented quickly and hence why the IFA started the process 12 months ago. The IFA letter clearly states that the award is going to happen so I would have thought there ought to be IFA confirmation that it will happen by now. As things stand I am quoting for work in after Apr 1st already and I expect others are too. It is bad enough having pay awards imposed on you - worse still is not having the time to implement them. Peter Wardle New IFA and BAJR rates - 1man1desk - 30th November 2006 Of course, you could always try asking the IFA directly, rather than other BAJR members. 1man1desk to let, fully furnished New IFA and BAJR rates - BAJR Host - 30th November 2006 I think that they will reply. Though i would guess that as there is no 'public' way of asking.. However I am sure they will... "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu New IFA and BAJR rates - Alex Llewellyn - 30th November 2006 As announced during the plenary session at the 2006 IFA conference and in the conference summary in the latest edition of the archaeologist, as of 1 April 2007 the IFA minimum salary recommendations will incorporate the following benefits: - 37.5 hour average working week - employer pension contribution of 6% subject to any reasonable qualifying period - 20 days annual leave excluding statutory holidays - minimum sick leave allowance of 1 month on full pay, subject to any reasonable qualifying period In some cases employers may find themselves unable to meet these requirements and, whilst this is not best employment practice, the IFA will expect any shortfall in benefits to be compensated for in pay. At present the recommended minima for 2007/08 will be increased in line with the local government pay award but we are unable to confirm what this will be as it is still under negotiation. IFA Registered Organisation must comply with these recommendations, and the amendment to principle 5 of the Code of conduct, which was agreed at the October AGM, also now expects all IFA members to give reasonable consideration to any IFA recommended pay minima and conditions of employment. Basic increases in pay for archaeologists is still very much a priority and we are about to undertake a benchmarking exercise with Prospect and other organisations in archaeology to allow us to identify, by comparison with equivalent roles in other sectors, what levels the IFA minimum recommendations should be in future. As with the current reforms, IFA members will be given plenty of notice of any future proposals. New IFA and BAJR rates - trowelhead - 30th November 2006 PFJ again I fear lots of chat no substance Close enough for a country job! New IFA and BAJR rates - 1man1desk - 30th November 2006 Where's the lack of substance? These benefits included in this package are not available to all archaeologists now. After the package is in place, they will have to be available in all RAOs. 1man1desk to let, fully furnished New IFA and BAJR rates - BAJR Host - 30th November 2006 BAJR has been working over the past year (to help the IFA implement these) by asking people to include in job adverts whether they will provide Pension - Holiday - Sickness benefit. So now we have many of these benefits seen as a norm. This makes it easier for the IFA to bring them in as compulsory for RAOs. As BAJR will also be requiring Holiday and Sickness Rights for adverts (I am giving away too much here) Looking at many of the current adverts you will see Holidays and sickness. (often it is missed off due to accident - from April.. the form will not submit unless the box is checked) - Small point of order.... though it has to be said that it was the IFA that brought these to the fore. I must wait until end of next week to see what the Pay rise will be. Its no secret I want an above inflation rise - to bring about the Dignity Wage. So for those that think there will be wholescale destruction of the archaeology industry... people are already getting sickness and holiday plus the base pay rates. it works out to something like for every month you work you can have 1.6 days holiday (or get paid at the end of a short contract - its all in the contract) Quote:quote:The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that all temporary workers are entitled to paid annual leave irrespective of the length of their employment. This decision departs from the previous UK interpretation of EU regulations. http://www.out-law.com/page-1768 Quote:quote:Every worker, including those who work on a temporary basis or on a fixed-term contract, are entitled to 20 days holiday (including bank holidays) each year from their employer.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1490178.stm Quote:quote:Everyone is entitled to statutory sick pay (SSP) if they have been contributing towards national insurance and have been sick for at least four days in a row including weekends and bank holidays. We support parity and recognise the Fixed Term Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002 act So sadly we are in many ways just becoming either legal or moral.. take yer pick. So currently you should as a basic Digger already get : £13,854 (£266.42 per week) and have rights to SSP and Holidays (1.6 days a month) .. can't decide about pensions.. I leave that to legal people. If you get a 2.5% payrise (estimated)...273.08 pw plus the above if we go for a potential 5% rise = £279.74pw plus the above (so you get your 2.5% inflation rise of £6.66pw + an extra £6.66 a week) or in year terms... 14,200.35 OR 14,546.7 (extra £346 quid above your inflation rise) I say a pound a day rise is not much to ask. I want to work with IFA and PROSPECT... it is best to provide a united front. So lets go for a 5% rise this year and the benchmarking can take place and for April 2008/09 we can make a real boost. "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu New IFA and BAJR rates - drpeterwardle - 30th November 2006 I am expecting to be in a minority and also to be very unpopular simply by raising these issues. (I would note that I am committed to seeing pay rates increase in archaeology. I pay over the BAJR rates as DC puts itâ âbelieve me.... you'll love em... anyhow Dr Pete... you are already a gold star payer !â There is something intrinsically wrong with a situation where an organisationâs membership can vote themselves a 25% pay increase and employers are merely consulted. This is collective bargaining without the bargaining. The IFA at the 2004 AGM said â if a pay bargaining structure was necessary, why not get Prospect (for employees) and SCAUM (Standing Conference of Unit Managers) for the managers, with IFA as steward, to set up an effective mechanism that could work for all commercial archaeological organisations?â see http://www.archaeologists.net/modules/news/index.php?storytopic=3&storynum=10 Peter Wardle |
