Consultants are being sought with extensive experience of historic environment practice to research and develop good practice guidance and an IfA Standard and guidance on the provision of archaeological advice by historic environment advisory services. The consultant must be familiar with the role of historic environment advisory services and have a good knowledge of planning guidance and processes across the UK.
Their role will be primarily concerned with convening and leading working groups drawn from across the sector, and in collating the results of discussions into good practice guidance and a Standard and guidance document.

Sorry to be beligerent but yes it probably will be the usual suspects because there aren't that many people prepared to put their money where their mouth is and express interest.

Presumably anyone prepared and able to invest that amount of time isn't very successful in their main job? :face-stir:...speaking as someone who's been doing 12 hour days all this week just to keep on top of the 9-5....

Is the position paid or is it a big society jobby?
And do you have to be a member of the IFA?

Or it could be someone who has been made redundant through no fault of their own due to cuts to historic environment services? Or has retired after a successful career spent in this sector, who feels that this lifetime of experience could usefully be employed in improving things in the future? Or someone so successful in their main job that they don't need to work full time (though I appreciate that this is unlikely in archaeology)?
I think this job will probably go to someone that could be classed as belonging to the archaeological establishment (ex local government curator, pensioned-off academic, former EH Inspector-or-equivalent, retired unit director), but everyone's free to express an interest in it. Why I think it will probably go to someone from one of the groups noted above is that these are the type of people with both the free time to give to a 6-month post and the experience of working within the system to know what changes need to be made, but there's nothing to stop anyone else applying for it (I have no inside knowledge of what the IFA is looking for, so I'm only guessing at the type of person that may be suited to this role)

Around ?13,500 incl VAT for 6 months consultancy between June and December this year. Doesn't mention IFA membership, so presumably not a necessity, though probably preferred.
