01/06/1930 - GnomeKing - 15th June 2011 Solidarity with European resistance | Support the 30th June Strike Plus Coalition of Resistance Conference Thousands of Greek protestors are occupying public squares CONTENTS
European solidarity meeting: 15 June Eurozone in Crisis ? Solidarity with the Resistance Speakers Esther Romero (Democracia Real Ya), Sofia Hilari (Greek anti-capitalist activist), Kate Hudson (CoR), and Alex Kenny (NUT) 6.30pm, Wednesday 15 June, University of London Union, Malet Street, London, WC1E (nearest station: Euston) The EU, the IMF, and the European Central Bank have created a Europe of bailouts for the rich and cutbacks for the rest. But resistance is rising. Hundreds of thousands have joined demonstrations, strikes, and mass occupations of public squares. Thousands have occupied Madrid?s Puerta del Sol in conscious imitation of the Arab Spring revolutions. The example has been followed by the Greek protesters who have copied them in occupying Athens? Syntagma Square. There is a pan-European movement of resistance forming. The Coalition of Resistance has called this meeting in solidarity with Spanish, Greek, and other European protesters. In the second half of the meeting, CoR activists will discuss forthcoming campaigning and action in Britain, including supporting the pensions strike and building the national conference. Support the pensions strike: 30 June The Con-Dem Coalition plans massive cuts in pensions. Public-sector workers will be expected to pay more, wait longer, and get less. That is why civil servants, teachers, and lecturers will be striking on 30 June. The Con-Dems and the tabloids talk about ?gold-plated? pensions. The only gold-plated pensions in Britain are those of the rich. The pension wealth of the top 10% is worth TEN TIMES that of the bottom 50%. And the gap is getting bigger. The attack on public-sector pensions, including hundreds of thousands of low-paid workers, is part of the wider cuts programme. It is an attack on us all. The Con-Dems? talk of ?gold-plated? pensions is designed to divide us. We must stand together. Every anti-cuts activist should support the pensions strike on 30 June. On the day, strikers, students, and anti-cuts activists should come together on picket-lines and at local rallies. In the run-up, there should be street stalls and planning meetings to maximise the impact of the action. 01/06/1930 - Unitof1 - 15th June 2011 Would you support this if you were marching for the right to tax your children in the future to pay for your pension? 01/06/1930 - Jack - 15th June 2011 Oh dear................back to the seventies then. I better start wearing my brothers hand-me-downs again 01/06/1930 - kevin wooldridge - 15th June 2011 Unitof1 Wrote:Would you support this if you were marching for the right to tax your children in the future to pay for your pension? Never understood this governments reluctance to pass taxation down the line. We have been doing it in the UK for 250 years with a great deal of success I think..... What's wrong with getting children and grandchildren to pay their parents pensions through fair taxation. It's that or use up the family inheritance - either way the kids end up paying. 01/06/1930 - Unitof1 - 15th June 2011 either way the kids end up paying. thing is they have now got their university fees tax to pay 01/06/1930 - deadlylampshade - 15th June 2011 GnomeKing - do you have a definition of "rich" in the context you use it please? 01/06/1930 - Dinosaur - 15th June 2011 Unitof1 Wrote:either way the kids end up paying. How many of the next generation of diggers (or indeed the current batch) are ever going to earn enough to have to pay any of it back? All we got in my day was a paltry grant, none of these whopping great loans.... 01/06/1930 - Marcus Brody - 15th June 2011 Unitof1 Wrote:Would you support this if you were marching for the right to tax your children in the future to pay for your pension? Our kids will be paying for our pensions irrespective of whether deficit cuts are made now or not, that's the way the system works. In the same way, people working today are paying for the pensions of those currently retired, just as those people paid for the pensions of those who were retired when they were working. State pensions are paid out of current tax revenues, individual contributions aren't stacked up in a big vault marked 'Marcus's pension - do not open till he retires'. That's why the baby boomer generation represents such a challenge for the pension system - there will be a large number of people all retiring around the same time, with fewer people working and paying tax to fund their pensions. Just as well they benefited from free universities, jobs for life and cheap property, then! 01/06/1930 - vulpes - 16th June 2011 Quote:All we got in my day was a paltry grant, none of these whopping great loans.... you missed off the stirry stick Dino :face-stir: 01/06/1930 - GnomeKing - 16th June 2011 Definition of Rich: Rich is: The chancellor returning from the 'secret' Bilderberg meeting, and immediate announcing a ?10 billion increase in UK's "subscription" to the Criminal Loan Shark IMF.... Rich is: The sell off at NO profit of nationalised Northern Rock, on the behest of the IMF Rich is: financial slavery to global corporations and financial institutions, under the Lie of Austerity Rich is: the continuing Lies about overseas 'Democratic Interventions' Rich Was : the fake money printed by the US Federal Reserve, soon to crash fatefully.... Rich We Will Be : when reject this imposed system, arrest the perpetrators, and return (at the least) to a proper Market economy, not manipulated by super elite corporations, where Real things, products and services uphold the currency, not Fake Financial Scams. If there must be 'pain now' for the sake of the future, then let that pain be channelled AGAINST the system that has got us where we are today. If we care about our children, then we must shoulder the burden of acting now to prevent their future world being one raped and beaten by an unaccountable, unelected international financial elite. Pensions are just one issue - J30 is part of continuing opposition to cuts, 'Austerity', and Global Rule of Bankers. (no stirry stick needed) |
