Million for a morgue - BAJR - 8th October 2011 No jokes... and a serious concept. THE MILLION FOR A MORGUE CAMPAIGN IS A UNIQUE FUNDRAISING PROJECT SET UP BY THE UNIVERSITY OF DUNDEE TO HELP RAISE FUNDS TO BUILD THE MORGUE WITHIN THE NEW THIEL CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE. The idea to involve the crime writers was borne out of the friendship between Professor Sue Black, the Director of the CAHID at the University of Dundee, and crime fiction writer Val McDermid. Professor Black has often assisted Val with the forensic details required for her crime stories and they have appeared at book festival events together discussing the thought process behind crime fiction. By donating to the campaign, you can also vote in a poll we will soon be launching to find your favourite writer from our list of crime authors http://www.millionforamorgue.com/ :face-approve: HOW IT WORKS
Million for a morgue - deadlylampshade - 8th October 2011 Does it say anywhere what the morgue is for and why it is needed in a centre of excellence...or am I being my usually dim self? (I'm a lightSHADE not a lightBULB remember...) Or is this part of the great archaeological archive issue??? Million for a morgue - BAJR - 9th October 2011 :p plink... (sound of a lightbulb popping) http://www.millionforamorgue.com/new-forensic-centre-of-excellence Million for a morgue - kevin wooldridge - 9th October 2011 This thread caused me to look up references for the Thiel soft embalming technique.... very interesting. Basically salt preservation of body tissue using only small quantities of formaldehyde... ..Does this technique have any archaeological parallels that anyone knows of? I am thinking that there might be some salt mine somewhere (maybe Austria where Thiel's technique was developed) where well preserved archaeological remains have been discovered.... |
