Well Chumleys, it seems Pere Noel's generosity knew no bounds this year! He flushed himself down my chimney and left a rich deposit of luxury goods with nary a spot of soot to be seen. Then he managed to get back up said chimney and go on his merry way - which is quite the achievement considering ours has a u-bend fitted.

How does Swiety Mikolaj (as they call him in Poland) do it? I'll admit to being a Godless bead-mumbler

The Moleskine diary (as always).....the bobble hat (all the way from Iceland this year)....and the assorted birthday/Christmas best wishes from far flung friends and colleagues...I'm easy to please....Oh and not forgetting the joy of being able to pick up a used and discarded Kindle and/or Tablet on E-bay in a couple of weeks time for next to nowt. Its gonna happen...!!

I was presented with a copy of 'A History of the World in 100 Objects,' and because I fish off sea cliffs I was given a lifejacket - but due to employment prospects for this coming year I'm sure it will be pushed into service in an archaeological sense. Also I was given a pair of rubber gloves! A hint about the washing up methinks.

I can just see me on site with my lifejacket, rubber gloves and Neil MacGregor's latest missive, waving extravagantly at passing tourists . . . 'Yoohoo! Over here!!'

Hmmm mmm I love a bit of rubber glove.. er... :I

For me it was a .. damn... being married to a toolstore for archaeologists means that there is nothing I can be given that I don't already have ,sob> what I would have liked but did not get this year was a shersey ( come on mum-in-law) which combines the shirt with the jersey so turns you smart but casual in seconds without all the need for buttons and taste.

I was however given a selection of bath products... perhaps that is archaeology related?

No, I don't think the bath products can be seen as archaeology related, not judging by the stink off some of my familiars. The shersey sounds like an interesting product! I suppose if you crossed an anorak with a cardigan you would end up with an anagram - figure that one out!

How did they manage to cross those two? - what sort of foul genetic experiments have those dastardly antipodeans been up to? It sends a shiver down my spine thinking about some Aussie eugenicist coaxing a string vest and a t-shirt into unholy matrimony. This has to be stopped!
