Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - BAJR - 12th October 2012 The latest Heritage at Risk register revealed that 5,831 listed buildings, monuments, archaeological sites, battlefields, shipwrecks, places of worship, conservation areas and landscapes in England are under threat from neglect, decay and damage. English Heritage also said it would assess 345,000 Grade II listed buildings. Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - Unitof1 - 12th October 2012 there must be some way that the pension grabbers of english heritage can make some money out of this subject except for the default every few months for the last couple of decades make an anouncment about "heritage at risk". The other day someone told me that there were only a few icecream vans left, maybe they could list some of them obviously they would have to survey them all first, take pictures, write very odd subjective descriptions about their Icecreamyness and get written evidence that the vans had driven past other listed places and then go ahead and list them and be dammed. Obviously this would not stop the icecream vans from rusting away but then this was never the point of listing was it? Name me one landowner who considered getting their property listed as the equvilant of winning the lottery rather than losing it. what about milkfloats, there must be a few out there somewhere crying out to be listed Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - CARTOON REALITY - 12th October 2012 Quote:The other day someone told me that there were only a few icecream vans left, maybe they could list some of them obviously they would have to survey them all first, take pictures, write very odd subjective descriptions about their Icecreamyness and get written evidence that the vans had driven past other listed places and then go ahead and list them and be dammed. Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - Wax - 12th October 2012 I know where there is a small private collection of ice cream vans, includes a Bicycle from the 1890s. it's a local company who still produce traditional Italian ice cream and very tasty it is too The point is if it is mobile it is an artefact and belongs in a museum rather than being listed. and as we all know there are many collections of all types of vehicle including, I am quite sure, milk floats. Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - John Wells - 12th October 2012 Some ice cream vans are better than others ;o) http://www.flickr.com/photos/testerscot/2728776507/ Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - CARTOON REALITY - 12th October 2012 Quote:The point is if it is mobile it is an artefact and belongs in a museum rather than being listed. and as we all know there are many collections of all types of vehicle including, I am quite sure, milk floats. I suppose if there was a listed milkfloat (let's say, it listed to the left) all the milk would spill out . . . Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - beamo - 12th October 2012 Icecream delivery vehicles through history - helped save us from the Huns - read all about it here http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/servlet/file/store5/item481744/version1/KetePanel.pdf Beamo Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - BAJR - 12th October 2012 Gad... this is what EH needs... makes more sense than what they actually want Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - Wax - 12th October 2012 I suspect EH might have a nasty shock when they start counting up those grade II listed Buildings. Rather a lot will have gone or been irreprably altered. Due to decisions made at local planning level without need to consult EH. Heritage at Risk - Not looking good! - barkingdigger - 12th October 2012 At least the disappeared buildings will make the next report shorter & thus cheaper! A serious consideration given the shoestring budget they've got... |
