Help With Profilling the Profession - Doug - 7th January 2013 Hi Everyone We are conducting another Profiling the Profession (PP) project. For those that are not familiar with it, PP is survey of UK archaeologists conducted every five years. You can see the past reports and find out more information here: http://www.profilingtheprofession.co.uk/ This year we have made it possible for both employers and individual to take the survey. We are really keen to get feedback from individual archaeologists e.g. self-employed, freelancers, those are short term contracts who move between companies, those who work half time for an employer buy freelance the other half, semi-retired, etc. etc. (archaeology involves a diverse range of jobs and employment options) It you have spare moment can you help us out and take the survey? Or if you are employed by someone else can you please pass on this information to them. The url is- http://www.profilingtheprofession.co.uk/take-the-survey.html were you can apply to get the survey. Apologies if this slightly awkward but the above link takes you to a small form where you can enter your email address and the survey will be sent to you. This is so a unique url can be sent which allows you to stop and start the survey without losing your information. Thank you Doug Help With Profilling the Profession - Gilraen - 7th January 2013 So can only employers fill in this survey? Nope, anyone who freelances, self-employed, works part-time for themselves, OUT OF JOB in Dec. - so that they would not normally be captured in the survey BUT who wants to be an archaeologists, etc. Help With Profilling the Profession - redexile - 8th January 2013 Haven't bothered - I know of three other freelance finds people who attempted to fill it in but gave up due to the lack of appropriate categories. Suggest you have a word with whoever put it together. Suggest you have a word with whoever put it together. Thanks for letting me know. Can you be a little more specific about which question(s) caused problems? Feedback like this is great (well mixed as it should be right the first time:face-crying and can help us improve it. Thanks Help With Profilling the Profession - GnomeKing - 9th January 2013 Doug - as with all archaeological IT problems, the solution is to ditch the 'T'... ask yourself (i ask myself) how would i do it with a rock and a chisel?. 1 -Just provide a simple set of basic guide questions i.e. 'ambitions-for-content-in-the-answers', 2- Use free text fields for any answers. 3- Collate simple text documents (ie tiny .TXT files) in an easily hosted Indexed store, with open access on the web. You can use any level of sorting that is useful in providing a basic index of responses, including (but not necessarily) judgements about employment type, sector, and favorite colour etc. 4 - Begin your research. (answers are not now a computed survey - you must process that bit yourself) 5- Allow others to extend / make use of the initial data however they see fit. (PS : N.o. 1 is the most important.) cheers for the hard work .:face-approve: Help With Profilling the Profession - GnomeKing - 9th January 2013 Actually now i think about it : Landward Research can just *******, if they have not managed to sort this out by now ! What good is there 'Research' if they cant sort out BASIC METHODOLOGY ! What A Joke. . Will BAJR host a simple repository for somebody/anybody/many people with the time+inclination to access?[ Maybe people without any funding, but with distrust of cak-headed organizations....] Help With Profilling the Profession - BAJR - 9th January 2013 Quote:Will BAJR host a simple repository for somebody/anybody/many people with the time+inclination to access? I could if I knew what I was hosting Doug ain't so bad. and if we keep the critique positive I am sure they will find it useful.... and learn from it Help With Profilling the Profession - BAJR - 9th January 2013 One thing I have noted is they seem to be missing the acknowledgement as to whom much of the contractor data came from. I am sure an oversight... But BAJR would be happy to see it's name added as per the original agreement. logo available on request http://www.profilingtheprofession.co.uk/sponsors-and-partners.html |
