The dear Digital Digging has suggested we up the numbers with the unsung heroes... the present day stars of the archaeological firmament... that illustrator who makes the past jump from the page. the digger who can make a section into a work of art. the photographer who does more than just snap a trench pic.
What do you say? shall we?

Wikipedia has criteria for how "noteworthy" someone has to be, before they're considered of sufficient interest to merit their own Wikipedia page.That seems to be based on popular awareness, i.e. the living ones have been on telly at some point. Given that the list is currently missing the likes of Richard Bradley and Clive Gamble, there are some significant players who are more likely candidates for new pages than grassroots workers (as heroic and talented as they may be to the archaeology community).
If someone is currently "unsung", my feeling is that creating them a Wikipedia page would probably result in its summary removal and a stern warning for the creator.
ETA: Actually, Richard Bradley does have a Wikipedia entry, but it's not linked from the page supplied above. Try this for a more comprehensive list:

[/URL]... although that doesn't include all of the archaeologists listed as "British Archaeologists" (it's missing Timothy Darvill, who's apparently a "British Archaeologist" but not an "Archaeologist"). Before suggesting new entries, maybe someone should try tidying up and sorting out the two lists so that they at least agree with each other.

But there are some archaeologist biogs on Wikipedia already, that just aren't linked to this page (V Gordon Childe, Charles Roach Smith for example). Before living archaeologists take up the baton. maybe we should get some of our predecessors listed on the appropriate page
