knowledge is power.

Ultimate knowledge is ultimate power

But through understanding is gained the ability to judge

The only way to understand is to look at something from a long enough timescale

The path to ultimate understanding lies within archaeology/palaeontology/geology....xenogeology....xenoarchaeology....etc etc

but a time machine helps

Hi Hamish. Just to freak you out, I think we have met. But to keep the element of suspense which sustains every story, I won't say where. }Smile

It's odd in a way that the first question seems harder to answer than the second. We all have our individual reasons for doing archaeology, and I can associate with every answer given on that one. But, the justification for archaeology as a practice does seem a little harder to pin down.
