E-Petition - ecmgardner - 23rd April 2007 Hi all, I've just found that a petition was started by Andrena Crawford on the 10 Downing Street website to ask that Archaeologists are recognised as professionals and paid accordingly. The deadline for signing up is 4th July 2007. I know this is a topic close to all of our hearts and there are many out there working to try and improve the situation, but I figured a bit of extra publicity for our cause can never hurt and hope I will be forgiven for providing a link... http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Archaeology/ Liz E-Petition - BAJR Host - 23rd April 2007 Thanks for That Liz.... so whats stopping us.. I hope that everyone who reads signs "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu E-Petition - BAJR Host - 23rd April 2007 Could somebody who goes to Britarch please copy this to them.. thanks "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu E-Petition - ecmgardner - 23rd April 2007 Every little helps! I've just read the small print and it needs 200 signatures to get a response... there must be that many of us who will raise our voices - aren't there...?! I've e-mailed the general IFA address to see if someone there can dissemintate the link too. So far I've got 2 non-archaeologists to sign out of the 8 listed ;o) -Liz E-Petition - Orkynowot - 23rd April 2007 I just posted it to all my email contacts both archaeologists and student archaeologists....was wondering could it be possible to contact universities and get them to put it up on there notice or a mention in there archaeology societies as it does effect them as well. May god go with you in all the dark places you must walk. E-Petition - lucy78green - 23rd April 2007 how long does it take for new signatures to appear and be counted actually just checked again and it took about a minute E-Petition - historic building - 24th April 2007 105 so far not doing too bad at all. E-Petition - ecmgardner - 24th April 2007 I've spoken to the IFA and they say they have: 'forwarded it on to the relevant IFA committees and will put a notice on our website' I've also passed it on to Edinburgh Uni... thanks to Pat Storey who has agreed to circulate it. Also done the same as Orkynowot and sent it to my entire e-mail address book - even my Mum and Dad have signed it!! Thanks for passing the word everyone. E-Petition - voice of reason - 24th April 2007 I don't want to rain on a parade but wouldn't energies be better spent focusing on something which might have an effect, rather than spending time completing, and mobilising people to complete, petitions to people who a. don't care and b. can't do anything about it. As a flavour of the likely impact of this, I urge you while you are there to show support to the really important (sic) national issue raised: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/A48RatRun/ nice to be back! E-Petition - ecmgardner - 24th April 2007 I agree that the people we are petitioning don't necessarily care... but if we can't prove that we care about our own profession then who will? As far as wasting energies - a) I've got 1 min to fill it in and b) I would have thought if anyone can enpower organisations such as the IFA to be more effective then the government can. I'm prepared to try rather than moan. |
