The chancellors watching brief! - 1man1desk - 5th December 2005 Bad idea. Archaelogical work on development sites should not be paid for from the public purse, it should be paid for by the developer. Otherwise, we (the taxpayers) are subsidising developers to trash the archaeology. That's a bad thing in itself, but even worse because it removes any incentive for them to reduce their impact on the archaeology.
