Archaeology TV on MArs?? - BAJR Host - 29th August 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk:80/1/hi/entertainment/6968568.stm The creators of hit Life on Mars are to make an archaeological drama series for the BBC. Bone Kickers, written by Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham, will be filmed in Bath later this year and is due to be screened on BBC One next spring. The drama, which has yet to be cast, focuses on a team whose historical investigations unlock potential dangers and mysteries in the present. Life on Mars, which finished earlier this year, is being remade for US TV. In the UK, a sequel to the time-travelling police drama is being made with Spooks star Keeley Hawes. Called Ashes to Ashes, it will see Philip Glenister reprise his role as politically incorrect DCI Gene Hunt. 'Exciting Polly Hill, the BBC's commissioning editor for independent drama, said Bone Kickers would make history and archaeology "sexy, accessible and exciting". Each episode will deal with a different historical period, including the excavation of murdered 18th century slaves and the discovery of the True Cross. The drama's central character, Gillian, is pitted against her arch-rival, TV historian Daniel Mastif, in the hunt for an archaeological treasure. Their race will form the backdrop of the first series' climax. :face-huh: Nothinig like dealing with the humdrum reality of archaeology... Mark Crook... owner of a small contracting company cuts the tender to the bone to get a drop of MegaBuck Arch Company with hilarious consequesnces.. watch 5 exciting episodes as Spud and Crusty watch a JCB find absolutly nothing in over 400 eval trenches!! then bggr off to the pub! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Archaeology TV on MArs?? - tom wilson - 29th August 2007 'Bone Kickers would make history and archaeology "sexy, accessible and exciting".' Archaeology already is; history never will be. This might actually be quite good if it focusses on the conflict between ideas and avarice. I don't suppose it will though. Not sure about the title; not on my site, sunshine... Archaeology TV on MArs?? - BAJR Host - 29th August 2007 not in your sandels ! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Archaeology TV on MArs?? - tom wilson - 30th August 2007 I take my sandals off for most site work. Bare feet give better grip; health and safety and all that. Archaeology TV on MArs?? - the invisible man - 30th August 2007 The Invisible Young Man who works for UKTV History (no idea what he does) sent me some blurb on this yesterday. Foolishly I have read and deleted it, but it describes the female lead as 'a feisty Celt'. If we accept for the moment that there is such a thing as a Celt, Hosty, is there any other sort? Edited bit: no, it was not deleted, still in the Trash Can: The lead character in Bone Kickers is Gillian, "a fiery Celt", with her team comprising Dr Ben Akomfrah and Professor Gregory Parton, whose work sees them uncover a range of treasures including bodies, books and weapons "that will unlock dangers and mysteries in the present", according to the BBC. You don't know what you've got till it's gone. Archaeology TV on MArs?? - Curator Kid - 30th August 2007 YAWN! This sounds like an archaeological version of "Torchwood", with bits of "Relic Hunter" chucked in. I'd prefer something more grounded in reality. How about "Curator Adventure" - Jake SquareJaw and his demographically politically correct conservation team struggle against a sweeping tide of archaeological mediocrity in a world of growing commercialisation, in a storyline that culminates in an exciting and moving showdown between Troll and The IFA at the magical desert city of Petra. Episode One - "Death, and the Really Bad Post-Ex Assessment"...[xx(] Archaeology TV on MArs?? - Petethedig - 3rd September 2007 I met the producer to this new series earlier this year, looks like it's going to be a real scream and a take-off of a few well known archaeologist!! : ) Recording is a privilage not a rite! Archaeology TV on MArs?? - BAJR Host - 3rd September 2007 wonder if one has a stripy jersey, another has an oooarr regional accent... and one wears a lot of tweed! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Archaeology TV on MArs?? - Gilraen - 4th September 2007 A UK version of 'Bones' then? Be prepared to start throwing slippers at the TV every time they get it worng... Archaeology TV on MArs?? - Petethedig - 4th September 2007 More like "Moans," I'd say Recording is a privilage not a rite! |
