Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - BAJR Host - 22nd May 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7359968.stm Harrison Ford will soon be back on-screen as famous archaeologist Indiana Jones, but one woman puts him in the shadows. Beatrice De Cardi is 93-years-old and possibly the world's oldest archaeologist. The BBC took a look at her life and work. I must confess to being one of her 'boys' - who drove her about and acted as bodyguard and general gopher.. a real honour... I have so many good memories of those times... She's the best! and at 93 and still being an active archaeologist... "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - Sparky - 22nd May 2008 As a learned and ever so experienced archaeologist, could you ask her what her thoughts are on the IFA and if she is a member? Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - BAJR Host - 22nd May 2008 :0 now there is a thought... let me see.... er... nope... she can be a BIFA (BAJR Incredible Female Archaeologist) "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - gonetopot - 22nd May 2008 Amazing. If she fancies a slight break perhaps she could come up with a biography to truly humble us all. Is been a long time since I've read an archaeology book as entertaining as 'Still Digging' by Mortimer Wheeler. We could definitely do with a newer tome to live up to. But I guess she may be demonstrating why low wages and a simple refusal to let go of what truly interests you means that archaeologists can never really retire! Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - tom wilson - 23rd May 2008 I note that she doesn't have an entry on Wikipedia. All the big boys who are fellows of the Soc. Ant. have pages, so why not her? Anyone out there care to start one off (I can't, I know next to nothing about her)? freeburmarangers.org Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - angi - 23rd May 2008 What an inspiration! She's given me an idea for one of my local society's community projects to try to explain to people that archaeology wasn't invented by Channel Four [8D] Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - Sparky - 23rd May 2008 Hmm. So she isn't even a PIFA. Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - BAJR Host - 24th May 2008 http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/making-history-the-worlds-oldest-archaeologist-804534.html Check here amazing story here. I think we should honour her... I will be writing to ask her for a profile article for the next Past Horizons Magazine. And there is plenty to start with for a Wiki entry.... "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu Real Indiana Jones (though she would rather not! - Dirty Dave Lincoln - 24th May 2008 93?? blimey i've got another 50 years to equal her record of service to archaeology.Your right Hosty (as per usual) this Lady really does deserve to be honoured in every way. What a biography her life-story would make!if there's one in the writing i'll buy. |
