BAJR - A New Direction - BAJR Host - 29th June 2008 Do you feel that BAJR should play a more active part (and by this I mean you - not just me) in the future of UK archaeology? :face-thinks: You do not have to be a member to vote... so use your vote. "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu BAJR - A New Direction - 1man1desk - 30th June 2008 Not quite sure how to vote on this, given the wording of the options. My view is that the IFA and BAJR both perform important but separate and complementary functions. While I am a strong supporter of both, I do think they should remain separate. I would hope that each organisation could recognise the value of the other, and while I know that BAJR does recognise the value of IFA and supports it (at least in principle), I am not sure that the same applies the other way round, and that is a criticism I would make of the IFA. If BAJR wants to expand its role, it has one major obstacle to overcome. BAJR is essentially the initiative of one man, and while it has a lot of grass-roots support it is not recognised as a representative organisation and it has no democratic legitimacy. To gain widespread recognition by archaeological organisations as a representative body, BAJR would first have to formalise membership and hold elections. That would completely change its character, purpose and ethos, and I am not sure I would want to see that happen. 1man1desk to let, fully furnished BAJR - A New Direction - BAJR Host - 1st July 2008 Quote:quote:I would hope that each organisation could recognise the value of the other, and while I know that BAJR does recognise the value of IFA and supports it (at least in principle), I am not sure that the same applies the other way round, and that is a criticism I would make of the IFA. Khufu BAJR - A New Direction - Unitof1 - 3rd July 2008 your not exactly fine the way you are BAJR - A New Direction - Dirty Dave Lincoln - 3rd July 2008 Yet another reply full of good ideas about...erm what exactly?[?] BAJR - A New Direction - BAJR Host - 3rd July 2008 I would have read between the lines... but there was only one :face-topic: "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu BAJR - A New Direction - Unitof1 - 3rd July 2008 Sorry, sorry, sorry, it is meant to be said with an Australian accent BAJR - A New Direction - BAJR Host - 3rd July 2008 [hm] :face-topic: Its not hard ... :face-confused: It does look like BAJR has a future ... though... whatever it is, it will have to alter structure to meet it. As I said at the BAJR Conference (now going up online as we speak - thanks Pat) A Unified approach... a single voice. SO first comes the unified approach... BAJR can't be ignored... but can be a help... to the big boys IF... IF the big boys will knock some chips off the shoulder. Me I am balanced... a chip on both.! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu BAJR - A New Direction - BAJR Host - 4th July 2008 One good thing is this keeps getting people coming to it... and voting.... remember folks... you can only vote once... ! "No job worth doing was ever done on time or under budget.." Khufu BAJR - A New Direction - BAJR Host - 4th July 2008 Whooo Hooo... 100 votes so far! This could work!?
