Didn't archaeology start going down hill when Ian Hodder "invented" Ethnographic data collection methods which other "Hodderites" continue to use.

Are you suggesting Tim that archaeology had somehow peaked before Ian came on the scene? If that is the case then 'downhill', would be from a fairly small summit, probably somewhere in Norfolk.[8D]

That would probably be in a pub on a very small hill in Norfolk

That would be the Coach and Horses, slightly up the hill from Norwich Station, where I have seen many an archaeologist visibly erode over the short space of an evening....[?]

Knowledge and wisdom are two different things you know David. Socrates of Greece once said that if he was wise it was because he knew that he knew nothing. On a similar tack, David Allen of Gong stated that 'the more you know the more you know you don't know what you know'.
PS the poem was written by Alexander Kieller, who excavated Windmill Hill and Avebury. All attempts to identify the culprit have only resulted in something about 'thoracic nervous system of prawns'.

...and so was too busy to write up his excavations at Avebury and Windmill Hill. His estate paid for the analysis by Isobel Smith and William Young but the report has no named author [:0]
