Can I just ask people for the name and location of any Anglo-Saxon cemeteries excavated since 1995? Primarily early/pagan ones with inhumations. Thanks.

Wessex recovered evidence of 40 burials at the St Marys dig in Southampton a couple of years ago - can't recall off hand the precise date B) - worse still some work was done on some inhumations along Bitterne Road West (also Southampton), but I simply can't remember the site code at the moment (even though I was there [xx(])

I heard of one coming up in Surrey at somewhere called Ten Acre Field outside Dorking not long ago. You'd have to contact their SMR for more.

They pull up ones from Lundenvic fairly regularly, but don;t know if that counts as a burial ground per se. Thinking of recent work at St Martins in the Field too.

Large cemetery with substantial grave goods (pottery, weapons & jewellery) in Dartford, Kent excavated by Archaeological Solutions about six or seven years ago. Due to be published soon if not already.

The ULAS dig at Glaston (Rutland) in 2000 was on originally on a Saxon cemetary, although it subsequently turned into a palaeolithic dig. (

I think there was one excavated on RAF Lakenheath by the Suffolk Council Unit in about 2001 / 2002ish.

How about: Station Road, Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire, Christian AS cemetery excavated by HAT in 1997 or Coddenham, Suffolk Pagan cemetery excavated by Suffolk council unit in 1999.
