Nice try Steve... bt you find we do have our own education system.. both a school and at University ... we also have our own legal system.. and quite a few other purely Scottish institutions - not subordinate to British ones.. but actual separate ones.
as you know, we even have our own Treasure Trove system - which is not the same as the one in England and Wales.

I read a short article a year or tow back aboutthe funding of Scotland - in essence it said that, although each member of the population of Scotland gets a larger amount from the Exchequer than each member of the population of England, this amount is less than the amount that each Scot contributes to the exchequer so, overall, Scotland contributes more to the central funding of the UK than it recieves back - I have no idea of the basis of this calculation but it was written by a Scottish Conservative MSP.

Not exactly so, m300572. In fact, each Scottish resident gets a higher proportion from the Exchequer than a resident elsewhere in the Union, and has done for some time now.

this advantage is being steadily eroded, much to the chargin of the nationalists.

Yes, but North Sea Oil has been thrown into the equation. See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_Scotland%27s_oil
Quote:quote:The BBC economist Evan Davis ... reported prior to the 2007 election that the Barnett formula already allows Scotland to sustain higher levels of per capita public spending relative to the rest of the UK, which is approximately equivalent to its disproportionatly high annual contribution of tax revenues to the central UK Treasury from Oil production.

you took the words out ma mooth... no other 'country' in the world sees all the revenue from oil, go to another country before being shared out - I expect once its all gone... we may be allowed our freedom... after every last drop has been wrung from our dessicated husk
