There are a fair few of us that have either worked in paid positions abroad or, volunteered abroad. From digging to consultancies to museums and conservation, there are a huge number of very different philosophies out there in the heritage world. In the context of the European theatre, seeing as we are moving towards a kind of pan-European entropy on most policies, it would be useful if there was such a thing as an internship available to heritage professionals of all flavours. A sort of "job-swap" thingy where we could experience first-hand just how things are done elsewhere. A kind of compare and contrast exercise. It seems to me that policies are formulated by policy-makers without a great deal of consultation with the very people who do these jobs day in and day out.Indeed, is there such a thing already in place? Would any of the susbcribers out there with experience of other systems care to share the ups and downs with us? :face-huh:

These lot do somethign similar, with funding from the EU via the Leonardo da Vinci fund.

They do a variety of projects, but take heritage professionals and send them to other countries to find out how they do things.
There are also things like the European Assiociation of Archaeologists

Trying to revitalize this thread a bit....
Is there anyone out there who would like to offer us a precis of their experiences of working abroad? How did it compare with the UK ideology? It would be good to see some posts here and maybe formalise some of them with a view to submitting them to Past Horizons. A "guide to" sort of thingy. Plenty of peeps are considering spreading their wings now that the credit crunch (breakfast cereal?) jobby has taken a hold, could we offer them some advice before they arrive at Gatwick?:face-approve:
