That said... we have now processed the BAJR survey, which covers nearly a thousand archaeologists...

The results are more than intersting anf form a useful counterbalance to the IfA survey.

The final results will be published very very soon - honestly.

Passionate talk is more than welcome...

I think what YP is trying to say is that

we all have skills... but they are different.. therefore we use our skills collectively and for a common purpose and a useful one... to educate.. after all... we find... we should ensure the data is out there, relevant and used... not by one or two.. not jsut by the developer to tick the planning requirement box.. but as an educational tools in social inclusion..

though I could be wrong.

Archaeological theory may be used to allow one nationalistic narrative to dominate, and be supported by the empirical evidence revealed by fieldwork"

He's alluding to the Nazi party's hijacking of archaeology to support their theories of Germany and Aryanism as the font of all civilization.

Hmm, not sure how that might work in practice with most developer-funded work:

'that undated ditch and couple of post-holes is definitely evidence of the Aryan cultural supremacy!'

I think I understood some of what Pete was saying, but despite academics and 'commercial' archaeologists (a somewhat unfortunate term, which in itself almost suggests we are in it for the money (!!) rather than the love of archaeology and its pure academic and educational value) seemingly operating in different worlds, it would be nice if they could support each other a bit more in some cases.

The worlds are different initially in the sourcing of funding and then they differ further by the social and culture polarity that takes place between the professions.

The nationalism side of the argument too be honest is too complex to discuss easily and all too often riles people needlessly, for the basis of reference rather than as a protracted debate on the subject.

To be honest I think the issue at hand is restructuring the entire profession, and not just one any given organization, or area within archeology, within the wider heritage profession.

Its just a different agenda, to move the ball park.
