Apologies for dredging up a hoary old topic (I can't help it, its a disease).
After 160 programmes (a terrifying statistic) Time team have finally spent 3 days finding nothing, which Tony Robinson ([:o)]) treats like an aberration - try living in my world, pal, I've made a career out of finding sod all, and not once did I ever get the chance to make a metal snake.
To those of who who did not see the programme and do not know what I am talking about, and who therefore clearly have a life, I salute you.

But they have a very clever idea.. and it cant loose.
Because even if they find a small peice of something.. they do a reconstuction and show what it could have been.
Wish Id thoughtof it before they did.

'they have been very lucky to find something everytime up until now'
It's nothing to do with luck - TT investigate sites with known archaeology or very high potential, as the aim is to have something interesting to show the viewers. Commercial archaeology is very different - it is usually an examination of a proposed development site aimed at meeting the requirements of the planning system, and the potential entertainment value is not really a consideration. I agree with diggerhobbit that if the public really knew what it was like out there then would be reaching for the remote.
In previous discussions on the forum regarding public participation, I do not remember anyone advocating getting volunteers involved in wholly negative watching briefs.

Too right... I once had a site for them... a known site, with loads.. but I could not be 100% sure exaclty what they would find.... 'Too much of a risk' says the TT Production staff.
They only go onto sites with 100% chance of finding.. so the surprise is this site..heads will roll !
