We had an enquiry from someone through the Past Horizons Tool Shop about how or where to buy a Krafse (Norwegian Digging Tool)
Gary Brun if you are reading this do you know of such a thing.

Not so sure that krafser are readily available in the UK...., but I have mailed the basement wallah equipment man at the Kulturhistorisk Museum at the University of Oslo and asked him where they get their tools from. As soon as he replies I will let you know.
I seem to remember the last time a UK unit tried to import krafser from Norway they ended up paying a large import tax bill cos' they were classed as agricultural equipment from a non-EU country. You might try therefore to get them through Sweden where you won't have so much of a problem. I would also recommend that you make sure you also get the 'brett' with this tool (the useful tray that the spoil is shovelled into).

My mate at the Universitet i Oslo has written back and said that they get their tools from
http://www.fiskars.no .....but the web site seems to be down at the moment. The other Fiskars sites (
http://www.fiskars.com) don't seem to have krafser....
