WEll John Armour has now joined the Federation list - explaining he feels the organisation is needed... perhaps he is me
should be intersting to see his views.
this should put paid to the concept it is a mates club, where no disenting voices are welcome.. all views are valid, as long as there is constructive dialogue... disagreeemnt, discussion and concensus thats the only way this works.

I have to admit that I stepped back from Britache a long time ago and never re-joined, so I'm not surprised to hear that they're all het up about nothing, that seems to be what they're good at!
I think it's easier to moderate a discussion forum such as this than it is to moderate an email forum such as theirs, but they chose that option.
As for the Federation, I have to admit that I dropped off here for awhile about the time it was first mooted and I'm still not sure (due to pure laziness on my own part!) whether it's something I'd be eligible to/would want to join. But that's the point isn't it! You don't HAVE to join it. As David has said, if the Federation (when established) can work as a pressure group/voice etc then it will be because enough people have joined and it will be (within reason) their voice. If people who do join are so apathetic that they can't be bothered to hold the people speaking for it to account, then they obviously aren't that bothered about it in the 1st place!
( That's also why, when people make comments about IfA, I often comment back. It's because I try to stay on top of what that organisation is doing because I'm a member. I want my say!! }

AS you say... it may work... it may not... it may be pointless and duplpication.. or it may not be. Only time will tell. and the views of those who want it.
It will never be the alternative IfA, nor should it, not should it be PROSPECT, but if there is a place, then fair play... I personaly feel it transform and mutate and it may not be what I enviaged, but thats the nature of a membership group.. its up to those who make it up to decide on the direction.
One thing I have learned is that its not something that happens overnight.. with BAJR I could just say it, and it would happen (order myself about) with this, it is a process, so fascinating that people are so het up about something they don't understand. lets see what happens.. getting plenty of publicity though.

I think the Britarch community and its recent dialogue is actually heartwarming. It is a clear indication that some see the BAJR community as a threat to their perception of the way things are or, should be. This can only be a good thing. It shows that to start with-a body of people coming together in open dialogue can make a difference (enter the Fed stage left) and after ten years of hard work by Mr Hosty, the BAJR world has demonstrated exactly that.
The paranoid over-reactionism and over-fertile imaginations of some of the Britarch posters really does smack of sheer panic. "Good God Rupert, we can`t tolerate oiks with a voice! Quick-design a website to distribute tasty morsels of gossip to discredit the arrogant peasants and while one is at it-phone Gorden Browns web designer and pass the claret."
The Britarch dialogue should in my opinion (as a proud oik) be seen as free advertising...eye-catching marketing...and proof of the pudding that the sheer numbers of BAJR members and their dialogue are being taken seriously. Congratulations Mr Hosty and happy tenth anniversary. Now wheres me balaclava?......:face-approve:
