Well since the Land Rover thread has been so popular
(I think its only because the word sex is incorporated somewhere in the title) What cars do you/they drive?

A Star Carr?!
Oh my aching sides!
Seriously though, most archaeologists can't afford a car.

Is it just my imagination but has BAJR recently turned into the online version of NUTS magazine? First its the slightly dubious sexual innuendo of a photo competition and now a thread about the size of your 'coupe' dressed up as a favourite gaz guzzler write-in.
What's going on here? Has Twatty Clarkson replaced out esteemed founder and one time right-on guy?
With peace and consolation hath dismist, And calm of mind all passion spent...

Consultants may have land rovers but most field archaeologists and units I know simply cannot afford the fuel costs. I worked at a unit that had some but got rid of them as doing 800 miles a week to site for six months in a Landy really hits the budget hard. At about ?70 quid a tank, and thats a few years ago, it got a bit much.
for the cost of running a landy for a week I could replace my Rover 420. Mind you its cheeper to but another rover tha it is to tax so....

I'm sorry and I don't mean to sound condescending here.
Are archaeologists really that hard up?
Serious question.
Why do you guys do it?
You cant feed your family just on the "because we love it and care" theme.
Also why are all these students going to college and learning archaeology?
How are they ever going to pay their student loans?

I deliberately bought a small car so that I can't fit tools in the boot and I can't give too many people lifts, cos I find companies expect you to use your car as a work vehicle and it gets trashed by inconsiderate colleagues
