Got my copy yesterday...
It certainly paints a bad picture of the county mounties involved (present and former). Probably won't change anything, though...

I suggest an open letter to IFA, copied to britarch, asking how they as an organisation can have any credibility whatsoever while this person remains a senior member.
In addition, how about a poll? How many archaeologists have gone to "the horses mouth" and been misled?

Tom- well put sir! We should`nt forget that this is not a one-off incident and that muppetry is rife and, recommended by the IFA.Said it before but here goes.. MIFA stands for Missing Intrinsic Field Ability. In this case, it sounds more like Missing Intelligent F***ing Attitude. The blokey in question (have`nt read it) has failed the public he serves as a council employee. Gross misconduct?

IFA should be given an opportunity to deal with it surely? Or rather, they should be warned that this is not going to go away - It's not every day Private Eye prints stories about County Archaeologists.
Maybe some words with their international peers?

I think its a real shame that this sort of behaviour is encouraged and precious few have the guts to speak out about it. Look at our careful words and the total inaction of the profession.
My understanding is similar misrepresentations appeared in an issue of Rescue......
