he he! not a good plan!
I always make sure i have plenty of cream on....especially on mi lower back (for when you're bending over...) lots and lots of water. One of those pocket fan things are quite good (if they work) lots of breaks and lots of shade!
A good tip is to dig a MASSIVE hole and shetler in it....always nice and cool and shady at the bottom of a nice ditch

An old lecturer of mine from UWCN always wears baggy overalls in the summer. He claims that it keeps him cool and protected from the sun.
Works for him so there might be some truth in it!!

Hey Troll, I'm a UK Finds arch these days, so make the most of the sun when out. Also, sadly I'm not bad with said blue and white sh*te. And I do know someone who excavated a demolished terrace in NSW and was studying the kitchen lino phasing! Aching's spot on with the old drink till pee is clear. Also bad, bad, bad move to hit the alcohol. Results in compounded dehydration, followed by heat stroke and you can't keep any water down.(plus you go all wobbly on site).
Oh, prefer snakes to nettles. Snakes have the decency to get out of the way before you sit down.

I remember hearing of someone on a dig in Bulgaria being bitten by a snake however it was thought that the amount of alcohol in the diggers blood probably killed the snake [:p]

And if you're digging in the Channel Islands, don't take too much advantage of the duty free spirits. I got heatstroke, turned white and keeled over on the spoil heap. Twice.

Trouble is, after a hard days digging nothing quite hits the spot like a beer!
The trick is in not having too many, I think!!
