Hi
I had this mad idea yesterday thatt wouldn't it be nice if someone still made Ventile clothing (you know, the waterproof cotton stuff RAF pilots used to wear in the war) - googled it, and low and behold there are 2-3 UK manufacturers making outdoor wear in Ventile, as well as army surplus.
So before I shell out on an uber expensive pair of trews (which ought, if the blurb is to be believed, keep my legs warm and dry for at least the next three years), does anyone have any experiences of wearing this stuff, particularly on site?
I'm particularly after things like, does it work on site, how does it cope with lots of mud, how easy is it to clean, how hard wearing is it in practice? But any info gratefully received.
I've had a bad year with trousers and I am determined to beat it and find my perfect pair. Good old combats are getting hard to come by, the last pair I bought survived 3 months before the flies went. So I'm on the lookout for a tough, heard wearing pair of trousers that are also smart and professional looking. Ventile appears to tick the box, with the added bonus that you don't need waterproof over trousers. But maybe you know better?
