There are "European Standards" published at the European archaeologists association Website
http://www.e-a.a.org. Having worked in Europe for several years and having visited many sites excavated by some of the members I can say that the concept of the the "context" or the Harris matrix hasn't been discovered in many countries. Lots of hacking and slashing in arbitrary horizontal spits (exactly like Edward Harris warned us against) So be warned.
