"indoor" jobs seem to involve rather a lot of manual labour in my experience. I am sure I have walked hundreds of miles carrying heavy boxes. The only problem is, all of us female finds staff are less than 5 foot 5 and we still have to ask blokes to put things back on high shelves [:I]

That's one viewpoint - the other is that the director maybe thinks that girls tend to be more careful and responsible, cause less trouble in an enclosed space, generally smell less, and have neater handwriting.....

I wonder what the split would be if we were only counting butch girls and effeminate guys? 100:1 ?
