I'm a firm believer in the punishment fitting the crime, make those responsible do the repairs. It might even engage them in the efforts of the project and the people involved in creating the roundhouse in the first place.
I always hate it when the media use the excuse of 'boredom' for such actions.

That's awful! Some people have no respect for others property or the time and effort they put into providing for a community. Hope they get the damage repaired soon and not at too much cost

That's terrible! Me and other students from the University of Sheffield spent ages volunteering with that project, also getting many groups of local children involved. One of my friends in particular spent weeks helping over the cold winter months. How someone can show such a lack of respect to what was a rewarding and friendly community project is beyond me!

A terrible loss indeed, but could it be turned around to study the decline and natural decay of an iron age building with one of the buildings being used as a training dig in a few years to come?
