On most of the sites I've worked on I've found there have been more girls than guys. According to YAT it's the norm that there are more women in field archaeology. On my course at Sheffield there were slightly more women than men. I don't know if it really is the norm but it is from my experience.

I dont know about that I can agree to the ratio thing for YAT. At the moment they have 2 female field officers and I think 8 male. Its true that the finds department though is predominantly female. Maybe it is because the girls have more sense than the chaps and realise that digging = cold/damp/dirty office = warm/dry and somewhere to wash your hands

The site I`m on has just had an influx of new blood and it has tipped the balance so much so that us blokies are far outnumbered.Tiz a good thing-instead of the cheapo (8million rolls for a quid) poo paper-we`ve suddenly got soft pink stuff instead.More girlies please!

We will be having another influx of new blood next week so by the time you get back to work there will be lots more girlies and we will be even more outnumbered.
