I am truely concerned about the next statement...

There is no question about it, my unit supplies all the equipment, transport, plus safety helmet, hivis jacket and toe capped boots.

If any unit manager questions my units policy they shouldn't be undertaking professional work on any level either.

For archaeological work on ALL occasions we where safety equipment, even when the excavation levels are slight, it looks professional. I am sick to the back teeth as archaeologists looking like tramps, after all a solicitor wouldn't be seen dead at work not wearing a suit.

Archaeologists have to look professional, such as wearing a hardhat or not, if you work for me and you don't wear safety equipment after 3 warnings your suspended on appeal. That is written into a signed contract.

The individual recently we suspended had not signed any contract so they were luckily for them treated as if them had signed a contract. If I had my way they would have been suspended.

As for unions, I wouldn't employ anyone who was a member of a union, socialist institutions fit for the waste bin.

The statement apparently written by an elected 'official' of the Liberal Party is clearly in contravention of the party's policy on trade union rights which according to their web-site has been in place since 2001.

'Liberals call for the introduction o a ?Worker?s Charter?, clearly defining and safeguarding workers' and trades union rights. Such a charter would include the right of every worker to join or not to join a union, and democratic procedures for the conduct of ballots'

I note that this man is a PIFA. Is he not contravening some IFA policy about fair employment? I am assuming that even if the IFA tolerates mad libertarian nutcases, it does not tolerate its members openly advocating discrimination in the workplace.

So hard hats are there to "look professional". So that's what they're for.....

There are, by the way, legally mandatory procedures for dismissal or redundancy of any employee that have in place for a year now. Not many people realise that they apply to temporary or fixed-term contract staff as well.

Strewth! Won't catch me working for THAT crew! One can only hope his employers will less than chuffed at having their discriminatory practices advertised like that, (that's assuming his little tantrum reflects any opinion other than his own)I notice he claims to have been excluded from work '..for years..' due to his lack of IFA status..If I were he I wouldn't be so certain that it was his "professional" qualities that held him back.
How old is this guy anyhow? he writes like a petulant young Tory. I think the best thing to do is bombard his employers with complaints and requests for clarification of their employment policies..any luck we might spoil his christmas! I'll be off now, I feel a strange compulsion to join a union..any union..right away...

And at the moment, Karl is looking for volunteers who want to learn more about the physical legacies left from days gone by.
Karl said: "As part of a large project, known as the ?St Brides? Major Excavation and Survey Project?, we are carrying out a dig at St Brides Major, looking at a 17th century dwelling. We have already conducted aerial photography and field walking in the area. Now we need volunteers to help continue the work. All the skills any volunteers need is enthusiasm and a particular interest in the past."
Archaeology Cymru (AC) was founded in 1996 and was based in Barry until 1998 when it moved to Pen y Groes, Gwynedd. But they couldn?t stay away for long and recently Karl moved back into the Vale of Glamorgan. Archaeology Cymru is now based in Bonvilston.
Karl added: "Over the years archaeological activity has diminished in the Vale of Glamorgan. Archaeology Cymru used to give regular guided walks and lectures in Barry and Cowbridge but due to family pressures I couldn?t continue them. They were very popular, with between 30 and 40 people attending. And in the future, as my children get older, I hope I?ll be able to offer leisurely walks amongst some of the most historic parts of the Vale of Glamorgan."

Complaint
A complaint was received from a company that had received an answer-machine message requesting an advisor to contact the caller with some information. A premium rate number had been left as the contact number. Another complaint from another company was subsequently received with the caller claiming to be an archaeologist seeking specialist information.

The following breaches of the ICSTIS Code of Practice (Tenth Edition, Amended July 2005) were raised:

? Prior permission (Paragraph 3.3.1): Archaeology Cymru Ltd did not have the required prior permission to operate a live service.

? Misleading (Paragraph 4.3.1a): Recipients of the telephone calls would have been likely to call the contact number given as the fact that it was a premium rate number was not made clear.

? Pricing information (Paragraph 4.4.1): The promotional telephone calls did not give pricing information.

? Contact details (Paragraph 4.5): The promotional telephone calls did not give contact details for the service provider.

? Further information (Paragraph 7.2.3): To assist the investigation, the service provider was asked to provide further information about the service and its promotion, including an explanation of the purpose of the service, details of where they had obtained the complainants? contact details and information about the nature of their business. Call revenue statistics were also requested.

Due to the potentially serious consumer harm posed by the service, ICSTIS used its Emergency Procedure to bar access to the service with immediate effect.

Investigation
Archaeology Cymru Ltd did not respond to the breaches raised and failed to provide the requested information.

Decision
The Committee upheld breaches of paragraphs 3.3.1, 4.3.1a, 4.4.1, 4.5 and 7.2.3 of the ICSTIS Code of Practice (Tenth Edition, Amended July 2005).

Archaeology Cymru Ltd were fined ?1,000 and issued with a formal reprimand. In addition, access to the service was barred for six months.

The Romans in the Vale of Glamorgan is issued directly from the author, I have 10 copies left, out of over 500 that were printed in 1996. I will sign each copy and include a free postcard.
